I have a dog. A big one. His barks are loud and thunderous even though he’s a total lover.
I also have kids that nap.
Are you seeing where I am going with this?
The doorbell sends the house into complete and total chaos – with dog barking and running, kids waking up and screaming (and then also running) and me trying to shush and stop the frantic dog from crashing into the front door (have I mentioned he’s blind?).
I needed a solution, I had a Sharpie, and this is what I came up with. Hopefully they take the hint, because the tape on the doorbell wasn’t working! 😀
I wrapped a Styrofoam frame with burlap (because anything harder knocks on the door when it’s windy – UGH!), looped a black S with twine and added the faux succulent for a splash of drought resistant color. I stuck the sign on the S with some Scotch mounting squares and hung my new creation on my door, with a little prayer for some sweet silence.
I had a friend that said, ” I NEED THAT!” so I thought… hmm… maybe there might be more of us out there, caught in the no-doorbells-at-naptime phase, so I whipped up a free printable for those of you with dogs or babies or BOTH!
Blessings & Prayers for Sweet Silent Naptimes,

Uncommon: Unusual, rare, exceptional.
I’ve mentioned before that I LOVE gifting — I get so much joy out of the whole process: searching, buying, wrapping, giving, and watching their expression. SO FUN. In my opinion the best gifts are always unique, as in something they’d never expect or have never seen before, OR something handmade.
When time doesn’t permit me to whip up a gift (because KIDS), I often check my favorite source for unique gifts, Uncommon Goods. So full of unique, creative pieces – sourced from top quality makers, they do such an amazing job of supporting artists and curating the coolest stuff!
From their website:
I’ve been a fan for years, ever since I received their first little paper catalog in the mail. I use them often for Wedding and Anniversary gifts because they have some of the sweetest things that can be personalized. Great ideas for baby showers, too!
Since this blog centers around creativity, I thought it would be cool to share with you some of the fun crafty items they have that make great gifts for your creative friends and family, or even just fun things for yourself!
Ya’ll know I sew… do you? Do you know someone that does? They want this. I WANT THIS!
So simple, and so darn cute – it’s the perfect little holder for your basic sewing needs, which is really all I want to have on my desktop for when I need to do some hand sewing.
And it OPENS! You can store notions INSIDE! Add this to my Christmas list, please.
If you’ve been following my sewing posts for a while, you know I use felt flowers ALL THE TIME. Pretty sure I’ve even posted about my happy place being the felt flower aisle at the craft store. So, my new happy place will be my desk, because..
..they have a felt flower kit. Felt SUCCULENTS to be exact (even better). They are so pretty!!! And you get to MAKE them!!!
This would be such a fun thing to do with some girlfriends and wine. “We could MAKE those!” — an often spoken phrase that turns in to an expensive night full of mess and laughter. At least with this KIT, it won’t be expensive and you can’t mess it up!
Any knitters or crochet mavens out there? I LOVE yarn almost as much as fabric, and have a large stash to prove it. But what to do with that tangled mess of a ball once you get going on a project? Especially towards the end it’s just a mess! So imagine my squeal when I saw this yarn bowl the other day..
Isn’t it lovely? No tangles here. And how about that gorgeous shade of blue? It’s even prettier on the inside..
Such a beautiful and thoughtful gift, I can think of a few crafty ladies that would love one of these!
We have the holder chosen, how about something to do with the yarn? I found two super fun projects that are simple enough for anyone, even the non-crafty type.
First, this weaving loom! These are awesome because they knit without you having to know how to knit (score!). That means you can make endless amounts of handmade scarves for your friends and family – which they will LOVE, btw.
Second, this Yarn Tree kit! How fun would it be to yarn bomb this tree – I don’t care how old you are, or how un-crafty you are, you KNOW this would be fun and probably pretty therapeutic.
This is easy enough for kids to do, too – perfect for rainy days.
And then when done, use it to display jewelry or just as a decoration for their room. I totally want this for MY jewelry, ahem.
One last item I fell in love with, not as crafty but I love the idea and the use of COLOR in this Wishing Wall!
Such a sweet and thoughtful idea for a wedding or a shower, right? Send them off with sweet wishes from their nearest and dearest! I can also see this being used for a teacher gift from the whole class, or a going away or retirement gift from co-workers.
I hope you like the fun crafty things I found at Uncommon Goods! Be sure to bookmark them, and add them to your favorites — if you’re on Pinterest or Instagram you can follow them there to get great gift ideas in your feeds!
Happy Crafting ~ D

Did you know that not only can you get your Valentine’s Day cards from Zazzle, but you can also find the perfect gift for that hard-to-buy-for someone?
I wanted to share a few ideas that I think are great for Valentine’s Day, or for any other special occasion — Birthday, Thank You, Mother’s Day, etc.
These are all customize-able in some manner, which makes them so much more thoughtful!
I love to write and sketch and doodle all the time, so one of my favorite things in the world is a great notebook. I have QUITE a collection! Since I love them so much, I like to share my love with others as well, so a customized notebook and a great pen or pencil, or a set of coloring pencils, makes a sweet gift.
I fell in love with the image on this one – the colors spoke to me!
The Zazzle notebooks are great because you can customize them — you can put a name, initials, a subject, a monogram…whatever you want on them.
You can even create your own from scratch using your own pictures. SUCH a great GIFT!
Do you have a dog lover in your life? I have a collection called Lab Lover, because, well let’s face it, I love my Lab. This is Jaeger, my 8 year old, blind as a bat, Chocolate Labrador Retriever. He’s my first baby, he’s huge and thinks he is the king of this castle, and if you have a dog or you have friends with dogs, you know all about the love between a gal and her pup!
If you know a Lab Lover, this mug of cuteness makes a great gift!
You can find a whole collection of Dog Mugs on Zazzle, and customize them for the dog lover in your life!
Okay, I am saving the best for last. Ready?
This is my new go-to gift idea, people. Meet Chocomize — the Zazzle seller that will create a special chocolate bar with the ingredients of your choice. I mean, I could literally do a whole blog post just about THIS!
Anything from marshmallows, teddy grahams, any kid of nut, dried fruits, candies…even gummy bears. 69 INGREDIENT OPTIONS! AND you get to choose up to 5! Don’t tell anyone, but I’m gifting these to the kids teachers for Valentine’s Day! Isn’t the packaging great, too? Love the gold foil logo!
So my friends, when in doubt, shop Zazzle for all of your gifting! Be sure to always check out the coupons page so you get the BEST deals!
Love to you all this Valentine’s Day!

February. Love Month.
You know I love it!
I couldn’t wait to get started on this year’s Valentines for the boys, but I wanted to make it easy and do something personal that I know everyone would love.
I went with my favorite custom shop, Zazzle, to design and print these adorable business card-sized Valentines with stickers featuring my boys! Bonus: They can help me put them together so they can tell all their little friends that they helped make them.
This is a perfect project if you have multiple kids that you need to shell out Valentine’s for, because you’re ordering a whole box of business cards. I get all my business cards through Zazzle – the quality is great and it’s such a great value!
With my two boys and their classes and friends, we will use most of the box. If you don’t need THAT many cards, consider going in together with another mom — that’s an even better deal and you could have a valentine-making party!
The stickers are great – I opted for the heart-shaped stickers, since it is Valentine’s day, but you can get them in circles as well. You could also use regular store-bought stickers, but I think the personal touch makes these cards wayyy more cute and fun!
The only supplies you’ll need are some kind of adhesive, such as scrapbooking tape or a tape runner or sticky dots. I had this Scotch double-side tape on hand and it did the trick just fine.
Place the adhesive on the back of the sticker and then put the sticker on the card where it says “Place Sticker Here” (convenient, right?).
Be sure to check out the coupon page before shopping, there’s ALWAYS a good sale on at Zazzle!
