PJ Time

Every night after bath time, we fill up the milk cups and get cozy on the couch to read before tucking in and saying goodnight. The boys are clean, smelling of soap and bubbles, as they scooch in next to me on either side, each with a book in their hand, ready for tonight’s adventure.

Tonight Mommy picked a book, too–extra reading time for extra good sleep.

I love reading devotionals with these guys, it’s just the sweetest thing. To see their eyes light up, feel them snuggle in closer, and hear them respond to questions and say prayers out loud warms my heart to no end, knowing that they are growing in their relationship with Jesus.

Our latest book, PJ Time: 100 Devotions to Light Up the Night, is perfect for them; they are 5 and 8, full of curiosity and wonder, always wanting to learn more about how everything works.

The illustrations are fun and inviting for them, and the message is perfect for their young, growing hearts and minds.

From the publisher:

This delightful devotional for boys and girls ages 4-8 will give kids a fun way to close out the day. Each of the 100 bedtime devotions includes a fascinating topic that explores the wonders that happen at night: sleeping otters holding hands, the moon’s glow, multiplying bubbles at bath time, and saying good night to God. Paired with the devotions are simple prayer starters that will help children learn to talk to God about their specific triumphs, struggles, and questions. Each entry includes cheerful illustrations and a final reflection on how to act out Jesus’ love and truth. PJ Time is a wonderful way to help kids settle down in their favorite PJs, spend time with God, and fall asleep in His peace.

Snuggle up with your kids as they have fun, grow in their faith, and settle down for peaceful sleep knowing that God is always awake.

That One Thing

First of all, Happy New Year! It’s time to start fresh, let go of last year’s woes and get going on this year’s goals..

So, I have a goal that I think you might be interested in.. it’s kind of a big deal, and it involves some reading and some introspection, but I think it will be well worth it if you want to live your best life and honor the God that created you!

I recently was given an advanced copy of Jordan Raynor’s new book, Master of One, that concentrates on us discovering the one thing that we are truly gifted at, and focusing our efforts on that one thing to best honor and glorify our creator.

We’ve all heard that term, “jack of all trades but master of none,” right? I can COMPLETELY relate. You should know this if you follow me in any capacity; I’m all over the place but not truly exceptional at just one thing because my time is so divided. Well, this is where Raynor’s book speaks to me the most (and WHY God placed it in my lap — a total #godstop friends!).

This is so true! Have you ever been “in the moment” where you KNOW you’re doing something that He gifted you for? I’m telling you, I really enjoyed the book, I got so much out of it and I know where I’m being led by the Lord as a result of it. I think it can help you find your one thing, too!

To get you even more excited about it, there is an amazing sweepstakes you can enter if you pre-order the book. If you go to Jordan Raynor’s website and pre-order you can be entered to win a once in a lifetime trip to Europe that includes a Royal Caribbean cruise, a private tour of La Sagrada Familia, and dinner with the author himself (I’m really kind of hoping I win, but I’ll be happy for you if you do.. ;)).

So please friends, this year, let’s find that one thing God has given us the greatest gifting for, and let’s use it to honor and glorify Him. He deserves it, don’t you think?Share This! Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmail

BibleForce Devotional

Calling All Superheroes!

With two boys in this house, there is no shortage of superhero action. I was so excited when I discovered the BibleForce: The First Heroes Bible a while ago because it REALLY spoke to my boys… the Bible in comic book form? Come on. Major winner!

So, when given the opportunity to check out the new companion book, BibleForce Devotional: The First Heroes Devotional, I jumped at the chance and surprised the boys for an impromptu superhero devotional session — which has since turned into a daily routine since we received our copy. So yes, we have another winner!

If you’re a comic book fan, you’re going to love this devotional — it speaks to the Geek in me. The illustrations are just so colorful and exciting, you can see how kids would absolutely love it.

What’s even better is the fact that it ties directly to it’s counterpart version of the Bible. We can read our devotional and then turn to the story in the Bible that is featured. I love the lessons and the Hero training sections – such wonderful wisdom for my boys to read and learn!

From the publisher..

BibleForce Devotional includes 100 devotions based on the heroes of the Bible with the popular comic-style action art, facts about each hero, Scriptures, and action items that help kids connect God’s Word to their lives today. As kids read about the heroes of the Bible, they’ll see ways they can be heroes for God as well.

BibleForce Devotional offers a fresh, bright graphic-novel style that will interest boys and girls alike and will be the perfect way to engage young readers who want an active, exciting devotional. It’s a great book to read together and is simple enough for young readers to read on their own. Kids won’t be able to put down this book! Jump into the story of God’s Word, and become an amazing hero for God today with BibleForce Devotional!

The BibleForce Devotional: The First Heroes Devotional is a great tool for you to engage with your children, and get them excited for a daily connection with God’s word. I cannot recommend it enough — it brings me so much joy to see them loving their daily devotionals.

Chocolate Cake Marriage

Cake and Marriage

A few years ago, I got to listen to this amazing speaker at my MOPS group one morning, who likened marriage to cake. Now, if you know me well, you KNOW I have a sweet tooth, so any mention of cake and I’m all ears…

The short version of the talk: How well you follow the recipe for a cake determines how your cake is going to turn out, and your marriage is the same! It’s only going to be as good as what you put in to it. I loved the visual impact of this, because she even brought two cakes — one gorgeous, yummy chocolate cake, and one that looked like a pile of lumpy goo. Everyone could relate to this concept (hello, we’ve all messed up a recipe before… oh, and it’s CAKE), and she blessed us with many tips and ideas from a Biblical perspective that we could use to improve our marriages.

Did someone say cake?

Fast-forward to early this year, when a great friend of mine called and put me and that same speaker in touch to format and publish a book for that very same talk! I can’t tell you how thrilled and just honored I was to be given the opportunity to help get this amazing message from Michelle Sullivan out into the world.

As I started to dive in to formatting, of course I read the book as I worked. My eyes were opened and my heart melted at Michelle’s story, how she was inspired and CALLED to write the book, and even more, I could see how I have failed to follow the recipe for my own marriage.

The Angel Made Me Do It - Chapter 1 from Chocolate Cake Marriage by Michelle Sullivan.
Called to Write

What a blessing this book is — it has spoken directly to me and my marriage, and I know it will speak to yours, too. It is full of so much wisdom, references to scripture, insights on how men THINK, ways to rekindle what brought you together with your husband in the first place… we are talking some REAL content here, topics that you might blush about, but that we ALL need to read.

As real as it gets, ladies.

And as a bonus, you’ll see some of my photos of chocolate cake and even a recipe for Michelle’s famous Mud Pie at the end! (did I mention CAKE?)

Don’t hesitate, get yours today and start reading the recipe every woman needs to get their hands on. God is doing some amazing work through this gifted soul, and is going to bless so many women and their husbands through her work.
