Unslump Thyself

Crib Bumpers

Custom Designed Baby Crib Bedding

You may have noticed a whole heck of a lot of pictures and projects going on in my neck of the woods if you’re following me in the social realm. I’m going through a creative explosion right now, and I’m enjoying the heck out of it. I am making the MOST out of naptime, people. #momlife

Truth be told, I was in a slump. A big one. Not so much in creativity but more like I was a hot mess — lacking motivation, having the hardest time with the whole work/life balance gig…a real poopy pants, as I like to say. When I don’t get to make, I am NOT a happy camper. inspiration

The problem I have is, I get so focused on making things that I let everything else slide…. my non-creative world falls to pieces. So I change my gears and focus on the house and other SAHM duties, and then I fall back into my poopy pants role.

It’s an endless roller coaster of emotional & creative turmoil.

But, the bottom line is I need to be creative. It’s just who I am. I’ve been waiting for something or someone to hit me in the back of the head and say, “snap out of it!” or “figure it out!”.

Then this beauty landed in my lap and did just that.

My “snap out of it and figure it out” friend

Elizabeth Gilbert hath saved me. She unslumped me. Bless her and all of her wonderfulness and brilliance, because I think she’s a pretty good person to be saved by. :o)

So that’s my secret.

That’s why you’re seeing all of these things coming out of my feeds, and why you’ll be seeing a bunch of new tutorials coming up soon (yay!).

I’m getting back in to my handmade business, adding a bunch of new product options and features (including taking custom orders!), and just planning to kick some creative ass. I’m going to embrace the creativity in me by scheduling time for it in my SAHM life, getting my butt up earlier, and staying positive about it.

If you’re looking for some inspiration…..permission to be creative…. motivation to get to work and make stuff….. or just confidence to TRY; this book WILL do those things for you.

Especially if you’re in a slump like I was — go unslump thyself as I did….and we can kick some creative ass together!  #fistbump

Plastic Canvas Note Holder

Plastic Canvas Notepad & Pen Holder

Another resurrection from the pre-hacked days. I’m trying to re-post the ones that I lost and re-direct the old links to the new ones (for those of you wondering why I’m posting old stuff!). So if you’ve seen this before, just move on, but if this is your first time, do check it out! I found working with the plastic canvas very soothing, and it was easy enough to do while sitting on the couch watchin’ my Greys Anatomy. 🙂

pcbloghopPC Blog Hop: Plastic Canvas Notepad & Pen Holder

So, thanks to the creative and uber cool Craftypod, I was lucky enough to join the Plastic Canvas Blog Hop in 2014. I had never worked with plastic canvas before, so I was excited to take on the challenge and try something new.

I came up with this little notepad & pen holder that I made for my favorite niece (I only have one niece, so of course, she’s my favorite!). I used pink and black because, well, HELLO – it’s obviously one of my favorite color combos!

Read on for supplies and tips and such… I found the following video tutorial on you tube SO SO helpful! It taught me how to start with the yarn and needle, and how to join my pieces together. This how-to guide is also a great place to get started. Plastic Canvas Supplies

Supplies (I purchased at Michaels)

  • Plastic Canvas — I chose this cool black stuff. It comes in different sizes
  • PC Needles – I used size #16
  • Yarn — I chose some worsted wool (recommended) and some neat shiny ones… but note, I did learn a lesson about the shiny ones:

I had this picture in my head of what I wanted to make, and went about trying to determine how to cut up the plastic and what sizes to make everything. This is what I came up with — you can count the squares or measure it like I did:Plastic Canvas Measurements

This is how it laid out before I started stitching, this helped me keep track of what piece went where: Plastic Canvas Pieces

So now the fun part — fill up them there holes with pretty thread! I played with different stitches after checking out this basic how-to guide.

And I totally wasn’t joking about doing this on the couch while watching TV… I was, by the way, hugely pregnant during this project and on limited activity! working

If you follow me on social media, you know I’ve been getting some happy mail lately. Nothing makes this gal happier than getting fabric delivered to my front door! And if it’s my own design, even better.

So imagine my excitement when I discovered that my beloved Zazzle is now offering custom printed fabric! I had to get on that, and fast. I normally print my designs with another vendor, but I have always been happy with Zazzle’s products, and wanted to check out the fabric for myself. PLUS – Zazzle always has THE BEST sales!

I’ve been feeling the corals and grays lately, so I came up with this collection of designs and ordered some swatches and a couple of yards to test them out.Zazzle Fabric by Stickelberry
