Things Uncommon

Uncommon Goods Meditation Box

Meditation Box from Uncommon Goods

Uncommon: Unusual, rare, exceptional.

I’ve mentioned before that I LOVE gifting — I get so much joy out of the whole process: searching, buying, wrapping, giving, and watching their expression. SO FUN. In my opinion the best gifts are always unique, as in something they’d never expect or have never seen before, OR something handmade.

When time doesn’t permit me to whip up a gift (because KIDS), I often check my favorite source for unique gifts, Uncommon Goods. So full of unique, creative pieces – sourced from top quality makers, they do such an amazing job of supporting artists and curating the coolest stuff!

From their website:

Uncommon Goods

I’ve been a fan for years, ever since I received their first little paper catalog in the mail. I use them often for Wedding and Anniversary gifts because they have some of the sweetest things that can be personalized. Great ideas for baby showers, too!

Since this blog centers around creativity, I thought it would be cool to share with you some of the fun crafty items they have that make great gifts for your creative friends and family, or even just fun things for yourself!

Ya’ll know I sew… do you? Do you know someone that does? They want this. I WANT THIS!

Sewing Station from Uncommon Goods

Sewing Station from Uncommon Goods

So simple, and so darn cute – it’s the perfect little holder for your basic sewing needs, which is really all I want to have on my desktop for when I need to do some hand sewing.

And it OPENS! You can store notions INSIDE!  Add this to my Christmas list, please.

If you’ve been following my sewing posts for a while, you know I use felt flowers ALL THE TIME. Pretty sure I’ve even posted about my happy place being the felt flower aisle at the craft store. So, my new happy place will be my desk, because..

Felt Succulents

Felt Succulents

..they have a felt flower kit. Felt SUCCULENTS to be exact (even better). They are so pretty!!! And you get to MAKE them!!!

This would be such a fun thing to do with some girlfriends and wine. “We could MAKE those!” — an often spoken phrase that turns in to an expensive night full of mess and laughter. At least with this KIT, it won’t be expensive and you can’t mess it up!

Any knitters or crochet mavens out there? I LOVE yarn almost as much as fabric, and have a large stash to prove it. But what to do with that tangled mess of a ball once you get going on a project? Especially towards the end it’s just a mess! So imagine my squeal when I saw this yarn bowl the other day..

Yarn Bowl

Isn’t it lovely? No tangles here. And how about that gorgeous shade of blue? It’s even prettier on the inside..

Such a beautiful and thoughtful gift, I can think of a few crafty ladies that would love one of these!

We have the holder chosen, how about something to do with the yarn? I found two super fun projects that are simple enough for anyone, even the non-crafty type.

First, this weaving loom! These are awesome because they knit without you having to know how to knit (score!). That means you can make endless amounts of handmade scarves for your friends and family – which they will LOVE, btw.

Second, this Yarn Tree kit! How fun would it be to yarn bomb this tree – I don’t care how old you are, or how un-crafty you are, you KNOW this would be fun and probably pretty therapeutic.

This is easy enough for kids to do, too – perfect for rainy days.

And then when done, use it to display jewelry or just as a decoration for their room. I totally want this for MY jewelry, ahem.

One last item I fell in love with, not as crafty but I love the idea and the use of COLOR in this Wishing Wall!

Wishing Wall

Such a sweet and thoughtful idea for a wedding or a shower, right? Send them off with sweet wishes from their nearest and dearest! I can also see this being used for a teacher gift from the whole class, or a going away or retirement gift from co-workers.

I hope you like the fun crafty things I found at Uncommon Goods! Be sure to bookmark them, and add them to your favorites — if you’re on Pinterest or Instagram you can follow them there to get great gift ideas in your feeds!

Happy Crafting ~ D

*Imagine my surprise and glee when Uncommon Goods contacted me to collaborate on a post! This is sponsored by them, but these choices are my own, and I was ecstatic to share the company and the products with you.

Did you know that not only can you get your Valentine’s Day cards from Zazzle, but you can also find the perfect gift for that hard-to-buy-for someone?

I wanted to share a few ideas that I think are great for Valentine’s Day, or for any other special occasion — Birthday, Thank You, Mother’s Day, etc.

These are all customize-able in some manner, which makes them so much more thoughtful!

I love to write and sketch and doodle all the time, so one of my favorite things in the world is a great notebook. I have QUITE a collection! Since I love them so much, I like to share my love with others as well, so a customized notebook and a great pen or pencil, or a set of coloring pencils, makes a sweet gift.

I fell in love with the image on this one – the colors spoke to me! Gifts with Love from Zazzle

The Zazzle notebooks are great because you can customize them — you can put a name, initials, a subject, a monogram…whatever you want on them. Gifts with Love from Zazzle

You can even create your own from scratch using your own pictures. SUCH a great GIFT!Gifts with Love from Zazzle

Gifts with Love from ZazzleDo you have a dog lover in your life? I have a collection called Lab Lover, because, well let’s face it, I love my Lab. This is Jaeger, my 8 year old, blind as a bat, Chocolate Labrador Retriever. He’s my first baby, he’s huge and thinks he is the king of this castle, and if you have a dog or you have friends with dogs, you know all about the love between a gal and her pup!

If you know a Lab Lover, this mug of cuteness makes a great gift! Gifts with Love from Zazzle

I like BIG mugs because I drink a LOT of coffee — and I love the two-toned look on the handle and the inside of the mug! Gifts with Love from Zazzle

You can find a whole collection of Dog Mugs on Zazzle, and customize them for the dog lover in your life!

Okay, I am saving the best for last. Ready?

WHAT IF you could customize your own chocolate bar? And I don’t mean the wrapping on the outside of the yucky chocolate bar…. no, I’m talking about customizing the ACTUAL CHOCOLATE BAR.Gifts with Love from Zazzle

This is my new go-to gift idea, people. Meet Chocomize — the Zazzle seller that will create a special chocolate bar with the ingredients of your choice. I mean, I could literally do a whole blog post just about THIS!Gifts with Love from Zazzle

Anything from marshmallows, teddy grahams, any kid of nut, dried fruits, candies…even gummy bears. 69 INGREDIENT OPTIONS! AND you get to choose up to 5! Gifts with Love from ZazzleDon’t tell anyone, but I’m gifting these to the kids teachers for Valentine’s Day! Isn’t the packaging great, too? Love the gold foil logo! Gifts with Love from Zazzle

Custom Christmas Gifts from Zazzle

A Very Custom Christmas with Zazzle

I love gifting — it’s really my favorite part of the Holiday season. Finding the perfect gifts, wrapping them with all the cuteness… bring it on! Customized gifts are the best gifts ever because they have that personalized touch. They are fun to create, and nothing beats the reaction of someone who has just been given a gift made especially for them. The thoughtfulness of a customized gift is always appreciated!

This, my friends, is why I love Zazzle so much.

So I’ve picked out a few of my favorites this year to share with you, in hopes that you can find some inspiration for your holiday gift-giving.

I love the stamped jewelry trend, and Zazzle makes it so easy to order. This gorgeous circle pendant I had made for my sister — the initials c & t are for Casey and Trevor, her two kids. Custom Christmas Gifts from ZazzleI just love the rustic but still chic look of it. Custom Christmas Gifts from Zazzle

And my goodness, can you say packaging love?! I’m a sucker for natural wrappings. Custom Christmas Gifts from ZazzleYou can find this necklace available to be customized here.

Another favorite of mine are prints on wood. These are soooo cool. Custom Christmas Gifts from Zazzle They come in various sizes, and come with a cool little stand so you can put in on a shelf instead of hanging it. Custom Christmas Gifts from Zazzle

I chose a picture of my boys walking down the sidewalk and added a lovely brother quote. Custom Christmas Gifts from Zazzle

These look great in color, sepia tone or black and white. Such a fun and unique gift! You can create your own wood print here.

I wanted to find a good family gift — or a gift for the kids — and I found one that suits both with this custom puzzle! My boys both love doing puzzles and we do them together ALL THE TIME. Custom Christmas Gifts from Zazzle

I decided to use a brother picture from this year’s school pictures so that it would be fun for the boys to work on it together. Custom Christmas Gifts from ZazzleHere is Logan trying to figure it out! You can create your own puzzle here.

Last, but certainly not least, a gift for the fur-baby or your favorite fur-lover. Custom Christmas Gifts with Zazzle

These dog bone ornaments are SO CUTE! Custom Christmas Gifts from ZazzleYou can choose the color of the writing and customize the name — I can’t wait to give this to Akino’s Mommy & Daddy for Christmas! Custom Christmas Gifts from ZazzleYou can create your own dog name ornament here.

So there you have it – some of my favorites for this season! Be sure to check the coupon page before shopping, as there is ALWAYS a good deal happening at Zazzle!

What I like the most about these is the fact that the faceplates COME OFF – so if you want a new design, you can just order new plates instead of a whole new lunchbox. Back to School with ZazzleIt’s all washable, AND it COMES WITH the containers AND the icepack! Shirts

Let’s talk clothes. Shirts in particular. Kids love shirts with words. Funny sayings, things that express who they are and what they are into… I happen to know a lot of kids that are in to sports. Like, REALLY in to sports. ALL THEY DO is eat, sleep, and play their sports. Back to School with ZazzleEnough said. Check out my collection of back to school shirts here (more to come, I’m adding new designs daily!), or peruse the entire gallery of SO MANY awesome and unique shirts on Zazzle.

Supplies

Have I mentioned that I love all things paper. I love love LOVE notebooks in particular – anything I can write or doodle in makes me SO happy. Back to School with ZazzleGet your child writing with these custom notebooks and journals! Great for taking notes, journaling, keeping scores… you name it.  Check out my favorites here or view the entire collection that Zazzle has to offer!

I love the idea of customized binders – nowadays the older kids need one for every subject so why not provide them with super cool subject binders. Back to School with Zazzle

You can put any text on them, so you could put their name or initials, the class the binder is for, etc., and they come in 1″, 1.5″ and 2″ sizes. You can find my designs here, or the entire gallery here. You can get popular characters like Superman, Batman and all of your favorite Disney friends!

Unslump Thyself

Crib Bumpers

Custom Designed Baby Crib Bedding

You may have noticed a whole heck of a lot of pictures and projects going on in my neck of the woods if you’re following me in the social realm. I’m going through a creative explosion right now, and I’m enjoying the heck out of it. I am making the MOST out of naptime, people. #momlife

Truth be told, I was in a slump. A big one. Not so much in creativity but more like I was a hot mess — lacking motivation, having the hardest time with the whole work/life balance gig…a real poopy pants, as I like to say. When I don’t get to make, I am NOT a happy camper. inspiration

The problem I have is, I get so focused on making things that I let everything else slide…. my non-creative world falls to pieces. So I change my gears and focus on the house and other SAHM duties, and then I fall back into my poopy pants role.

It’s an endless roller coaster of emotional & creative turmoil.

But, the bottom line is I need to be creative. It’s just who I am. I’ve been waiting for something or someone to hit me in the back of the head and say, “snap out of it!” or “figure it out!”.

Then this beauty landed in my lap and did just that.

bigmagic

My “snap out of it and figure it out” friend

Elizabeth Gilbert hath saved me. She unslumped me. Bless her and all of her wonderfulness and brilliance, because I think she’s a pretty good person to be saved by. :o)

So that’s my secret.

Owl Baby Swaddle & Beanie

Owl Baby Swaddle & Beanie

That’s why you’re seeing all of these things coming out of my feeds, and why you’ll be seeing a bunch of new tutorials coming up soon (yay!).

I’m getting back in to my handmade business, adding a bunch of new product options and features (including taking custom orders!), and just planning to kick some creative ass. I’m going to embrace the creativity in me by scheduling time for it in my SAHM life, getting my butt up earlier, and staying positive about it.

If you’re looking for some inspiration…..permission to be creative…. motivation to get to work and make stuff….. or just confidence to TRY; this book WILL do those things for you.

Especially if you’re in a slump like I was — go unslump thyself as I did….and we can kick some creative ass together!  #fistbump
