“This little light of mine…” – and now you’re singing!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. This year we tried to really focus on the reason for the season and celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Savior. Truly the best gift ever, right?
For our friends we made these solar light jars to help remind everyone to always let their light shine bright, even in the darkest times.
They were super easy to make since the solar lids already have the lights attached to them. Logan (5) really enjoyed putting the lights in the jars and screwing the tops on, and of course testing out the lights!
I used a paper punch and a hole punch to make the tags, some cute twine to tie them on and voila! Instant night light or light for the backyard.
Found the perfect sized jars at the grocery (best deal!), and the lids come in sets of 6 on Amazon* here: http://amzn.to/2DtnoOA
Go forth and make your own – such a great gift idea… and don’t forget to let YOUR light shine bright in 2018.
Blessings and Happy New Year!

I happened across this amazing DIY Advent Calendar on Live Laugh Rowe and decided about a month ago that I would try to make one.
It’s brilliant — a hanging shoe rack has exactly 24 spots to fill with some decent sized goodies!
So of course I procrastinated and waited until today, November 30th, to make it.
While it’s not quite as beautiful as Kelly’s, the kids will go nuts over it, and that’s all that really matters, right?
Maybe next year I can start a little earlier… 😀
Blessings,

Uncommon: Unusual, rare, exceptional.
I’ve mentioned before that I LOVE gifting — I get so much joy out of the whole process: searching, buying, wrapping, giving, and watching their expression. SO FUN. In my opinion the best gifts are always unique, as in something they’d never expect or have never seen before, OR something handmade.
When time doesn’t permit me to whip up a gift (because KIDS), I often check my favorite source for unique gifts, Uncommon Goods. So full of unique, creative pieces – sourced from top quality makers, they do such an amazing job of supporting artists and curating the coolest stuff!
From their website:
I’ve been a fan for years, ever since I received their first little paper catalog in the mail. I use them often for Wedding and Anniversary gifts because they have some of the sweetest things that can be personalized. Great ideas for baby showers, too!
Since this blog centers around creativity, I thought it would be cool to share with you some of the fun crafty items they have that make great gifts for your creative friends and family, or even just fun things for yourself!
Ya’ll know I sew… do you? Do you know someone that does? They want this. I WANT THIS!
So simple, and so darn cute – it’s the perfect little holder for your basic sewing needs, which is really all I want to have on my desktop for when I need to do some hand sewing.
And it OPENS! You can store notions INSIDE! Add this to my Christmas list, please.
If you’ve been following my sewing posts for a while, you know I use felt flowers ALL THE TIME. Pretty sure I’ve even posted about my happy place being the felt flower aisle at the craft store. So, my new happy place will be my desk, because..
..they have a felt flower kit. Felt SUCCULENTS to be exact (even better). They are so pretty!!! And you get to MAKE them!!!
This would be such a fun thing to do with some girlfriends and wine. “We could MAKE those!” — an often spoken phrase that turns in to an expensive night full of mess and laughter. At least with this KIT, it won’t be expensive and you can’t mess it up!
Any knitters or crochet mavens out there? I LOVE yarn almost as much as fabric, and have a large stash to prove it. But what to do with that tangled mess of a ball once you get going on a project? Especially towards the end it’s just a mess! So imagine my squeal when I saw this yarn bowl the other day..
Isn’t it lovely? No tangles here. And how about that gorgeous shade of blue? It’s even prettier on the inside..
Such a beautiful and thoughtful gift, I can think of a few crafty ladies that would love one of these!
We have the holder chosen, how about something to do with the yarn? I found two super fun projects that are simple enough for anyone, even the non-crafty type.
First, this weaving loom! These are awesome because they knit without you having to know how to knit (score!). That means you can make endless amounts of handmade scarves for your friends and family – which they will LOVE, btw.
Second, this Yarn Tree kit! How fun would it be to yarn bomb this tree – I don’t care how old you are, or how un-crafty you are, you KNOW this would be fun and probably pretty therapeutic.
This is easy enough for kids to do, too – perfect for rainy days.
And then when done, use it to display jewelry or just as a decoration for their room. I totally want this for MY jewelry, ahem.
One last item I fell in love with, not as crafty but I love the idea and the use of COLOR in this Wishing Wall!
Such a sweet and thoughtful idea for a wedding or a shower, right? Send them off with sweet wishes from their nearest and dearest! I can also see this being used for a teacher gift from the whole class, or a going away or retirement gift from co-workers.
I hope you like the fun crafty things I found at Uncommon Goods! Be sure to bookmark them, and add them to your favorites — if you’re on Pinterest or Instagram you can follow them there to get great gift ideas in your feeds!
Happy Crafting ~ D
