Crafty Door Sign

Knock Knock (Bark Bark, Wahhhhhh!!!) & a Free Printable

The Dog that Barks Loudly

I have a dog. A big one. His barks are loud and thunderous even though he’s a total lover.

I also have kids that nap.

Are you seeing where I am going with this?

The doorbell sends the house into complete and total chaos – with dog barking and running, kids waking up and screaming (and then also running) and me trying to shush and stop the frantic dog from crashing into the front door (have I mentioned he’s blind?).

Knock Knock Sharpie

I needed a solution, I had a Sharpie, and this is what I came up with. Hopefully they take the hint, because the tape on the doorbell wasn’t working! 😀

Crafty Door Sign

I wrapped a Styrofoam frame with burlap (because anything harder knocks on the door when it’s windy – UGH!), looped a black S with twine and added the faux succulent for a splash of drought resistant color. I stuck the sign on the S with some Scotch mounting squares and hung my new creation on my door, with a little prayer for some sweet silence.

On the Door

I had a friend that said, ” I NEED THAT!” so I thought… hmm… maybe there might be more of us out there, caught in the no-doorbells-at-naptime phase, so I whipped up a free printable for those of you with dogs or babies or BOTH!

Blessings & Prayers for Sweet Silent Naptimes,

– D

On The Farm: Cow Themed 1st Birthday Party

On the Farm: Cow Themed 1st Birthday Party

The little man recently turned a year old (!!!), so of course, we had to celebrate. Always itching for an opportunity to design and be crafty, I dove in head first and let everything else go while I was in party planning mode. I then remembered that I have a blog and that I should probably blog about it, so I had to remember to take good pictures, too! #bloggerproblems

Since I did actually think ahead this time, almost everything you see in this post is available either for purchase or as a free printable (yay!). You can find a list of products and links to their source at the bottom of this post! On the Farm: Cow BirthdayI chose a farm theme for Vaughn – his Grandpa is a strawberry farmer, and Vaughn seems to have an affinity for one of his cow toys, so I thought it would be a really cute party and super fun to plan for if we held it at Grandma & Grandpa’s house.

On the Farm: Cow Party - First Birthday

It all started with the invites. I started playing with the cow idea and drew up this cutie. The whole theme unfolded from there with the red font and cow splotches all over the place. 🙂

I loved the tag shaped invite option on Zazzle, so I used that as my canvas, and opted for the natural colored paper instead of white. Much more farm-y, don’t you think?

On the Farm: Cow Party Invite

The back side of the invite has all the details for the party.

invites

When you purchase the invites, they come with plain-jane envelopes. I considered making some cute labels or something, but why go through all that effort when I can design custom envelopes! Right?

On the Farm: Cow Party Envelopes

They even have cow splotches on the inside. Hello Cuteness!

On the Farm: Cow Invite Envelopes

Once I dropped the invites in the mail I started working on all of the fun for the big day. Utilizing Zazzle’s crazy huge selection of customizable goodies, I started adding the party’s mascot to favor boxes, favor tags, paper plates, and a onesie for the birthday boy!

On the Farm: Cow Birthday Favor Boxes

How cute are these little guys?

I really love the tags, and they come with the twine!

So my next mission was to figure out what to put in these little boxes for the kiddos that were coming to the party. Amazon to the rescue! Farm themed rubber duckies….

I wanted a banner or bunting with Vaughn’s name on it, and decided to just make my own printable bunting, punch some holes in the triangles and string some twine through.

On the Farm: Cow Party BannerWhile I was at it, I made a couple of flags for cake toppers, and some water bottle labels (seriously, I can’t stop once I’m on a roll). All of these are available to print below!

I couldn’t wait for the big day!

On the Farm: Cow Party Display

This display was inside, and Grandma and Grandpa’s house tends to be pretty dark so it was very hard to take decent pictures. The close-ups are better!

On the Farm: Cow Party - Cow CakeGood old Albertsons did an amazing job yet again with the cake! I used bamboo skewers for the cake topper flags (taped them on). I purchased a package of the red bandanas on Amazon to use for decoration and handed them out to the kids as well.

On the Farm: Cow Party - Cow Smash CakeVaughn got his own cake to dive into. And he totally did!

On the Farm: Cow Party - Water BottlesThe printed water bottle labels – they fit on both the mini and regular size Arrowhead water bottles.

On the Farm: Cow Party - Cake PlateseCake Plates!

On the Farm: Cow Party - Milk BottlesI found these milk bottles at Target in the party section, and filled them with jelly bellies (french vanilla and chocolate pudding to be exact).

On the Farm: Cow Party - Favor BoxesMilk BottlesThe favor boxes, all packaged up and ready to go!

On the Farm: Cow Party - Name BannerThe printable name banner with red and white twine. The secondary banner is from Target!

On the Farm: Cow Party - HighChair BannerI found this great chalkboard banner at Target too, along with some chalkboard pens (my new favorite). I wrote the letters and used two types of twine to string through the banner and tape on to the highchair. The highchair is very special – it’s an antique my Mom purchased years ago, and every grandchild has spent ample time in it during their baby days. Vaughn is probably the last one. Certainly from me. LOL

On the Farm: Cow Party Birthday BoyMe and the Birthday Boy! Notice his onesie? 🙂

On the Farm: Cow Party Grandpa’s wagon made a great place to put the presents!

On the Farm: Cow Party Veggies first, then Cake!

On the Farm: Cow Party - Smash CakeYep. I think he likes it.

On the Farm: Cow Party Do you see the remote control in his hand? He wouldn’t put it down… and since it was his birthday, I wasn’t about to take it away from him. Sorry Mom. 🙂

Forever Young - Bob Dylan Lyrics - Free Printable

Forever Young by Bob Dylan – Free Printable!

Forever Young Lyrics - Free PrintableI’ve been sitting on this post  for a while – – I meant to post this a loooong time ago! My super cool cousin-in-law contacted me last year about making some nursery art for our other cousin-in-law who was pregnant with her first child.

They love Bob Dylan (baby was aptly named Dylan, by the way), and this song in particular, so she thought it would be a great idea to print out the lyrics for their nursery. I agreed! I thought it was so great, in fact, that I did the same for Vaughn’s nursery…which I haven’t shown you yet… because it’s still in progress… because I’m lazy  I’ve been busy.

Forever Young Lyrics - Free Printable

The lyrics speak to everyone, especially little boys and girls and they totally make me tear up every time I read them. The song itself is beautiful too, you can hear it here. There is another more recent version that is awesome too, by Rhiannon Giddens and Iron & Wine (love), which you can listen to here.

Forever Young Lyrics - Free Printable

While we thought this would be great for a nursery, its perfect for any little’s bedroom or playroom, or heck, put it in the family room!

I Dig You, Valentine!

My three year old is obsessed (OBSESSED!!!!!) with all things construction lately. We happen to have a lot of road work and building going on ’round these parts too, so every time we get in the car and leave our neighborhood, my son is in his glory – calling out the names of every construction truck he sees. Digger! Excavator! Bulldozer! Crane Truck! Dump Truck! Jackhammer! Forklift! Oh yes, he knows them all. I do too now, thanks to him. 🙂

I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share his obsession with his classmates, so I started digging around online (see what I did there?) and found these cute little pull-back diggers on Amazon. Digger Close Up

To make them cute, my good friend Target helped me with some felt hearts and party bags, and I created my own little digger valentine on cardstock (Thank you, Google Images). 🙂
