Be Cool for School with Zazzle

Be Cool for School with Zazzle

Be Cool for School with ZazzleIt’s that time of year when everyone scrambles to get their supplies and clothes and hair-dos just right for going back to school. I love it! Even though I’m not in school anymore (HA! Been a LONG time), I still honor the annual tradition of buying new clothes in the fall — much to my husband’s delight, as you can imagine. ๐Ÿ™‚

But now that I have my own kiddos and nephews and nieces, I get to relive the Back to School traditions through them — and you KNOW I have to make sure they have all the cool stuff, right? Right.

That’s where Zazzle comes in to play. So much cool stuff. And the best part is a lot of it can be completely customized and personalized, so your little one will never mistake someone else’s lunchbox for his own, and your eldest won’t lose his gym bag amongst the piles of others in the locker room.

Gifts for Dad – The Grill Master

Bye Bye, May and Hello June! Summer is coming and so is Father’s Day, which means it’s time to start looking for some great gifts for Dad. What better gifts to give YOUR Grill Master than these personalized BBQ accessories I found on Zazzle — which, by the way, are on SALE, RIGHT NOW!

My husband, the father of my children, believes himself to be an expert when it comes to the art of grilling, and has therefore dubbed himself The Grill Master. Well, a Grill Master needs an apron like a King needs a crown – it’s a necessity. I love the style of this one, very bold but still classy, and you can put whatever name you want at the top.

Gifts for Dad - BBQ Apron from Zazzle

It is very well made – a nice thick canvas fabric to hold up to his grilling shenanigans.. which usually involves the dog jumping on him at some point, and at least one shout of, “FIRE IN THE HOLE!”

Does your Grill Master have a secret sauce? Mine does – or so he says! It IS a bit of a mystery, I’ve never actually watched him to see what he puts in it, but it usually tastes pretty darn good. It could very well be just a regular jar of BBQ sauce. But I like it, the kids like it, and that’s all that really matters.

Gifts for Dad - BBQ Sauce Bowl from Zazzle

I thought a special bowl just for his top secret sauce would make him smile, so I designed this one with him in mind. This is customizable too, you can change “Dad” to any name! It’s actually a chili bowl, but I thought it would be better than a regular bowl since it has the cool little finger handle. ๐Ÿ™‚

Every time MY husband gets his grill on he comes running in to the house in a panic at some point, saying “I NEED A PLATE!” and I scramble to find him one that he can’t destroy. Paper plates are too flimsy and I’m terrified he’ll break one of my ceramic plates — not that losing the plate is a big deal, it’s the shards all over the ground for a blind dog and a 1 year old to walk on that scare me..

Gifts for Dad - BBQ Plate from Zazzle

…well now he can have his very own plate, and a towel to match. A very classy design on both with his initials; the plate is melamine so it can take a beating (no shards!)…

Gifts for Dad - BBQ Towel from Zazzle

..and the towel is absorbent enough to handle his messes! I like the black towel, it will hide any stains that are sure to come from his secret sauce, and it looks great on the grill.

Our Grill Master just got a new grill, so I think these gifts will be a big hit! Don’t tell him I used it as a prop for my photo shoot.ย  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Crayola Birthday Party

A World of Color

Crayola Party for Logan’s Birthday: An Easy and Fun Birthday Theme Idea

It didn’t take me long to come up with a theme for my little guy’s birthday this year. I’ve always wanted to do a rainbow party, but I needed an idea that was more Logan appropriate… after all it’s his party, not mine. He LOVES to color (aka scribble) and has an expansive collection of crayons to choose from when creating his masterpieces. We color with him, and if he doesn’t like the color we are using, he will promptly place a new color in our hands. He knows what he wants!

I thought an invitation that looked like a box of crayons would be cool. I looked around online and couldn’t find what I was looking for. Last year, for his Carnival themed birthday party, I procrastinated and waited until the last minute so I had to scramble to get it together. I found a great designer through Etsy (Check her out! Frosting & Ink ) who customized the invites and other printables.

I thought maybe this year I would try to do them myself. We were also only inviting family, so even if they didn’t come out all that great, I would only be slightly embarrassed. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Crayola Party Invite Back

Crayola Party Invite Back

I found an image of a crayon box online (Thanks, Google Images!) and played with it – a little tweak here and there, and voila! Logan had his own personalized crayon box. For the back, I used the same image but removed all of the content in the center so I could add in the invite details.

I made some wrap around address labels for the envelopes to match, and printed them on sticker paper.

Wrap Around Address Labels

Once those were all printed and mailed, I got to work on a few other things for the party. I needed some basic decor – not too much since the party was going to be at a restaurant – and I needed to make treat bags for the little ones. I also needed something for the kids to do at the party (only 2 hours), and since it was going to be a Crayola party, I thought maybe it would make sense to have them color? With crayons?

For decor, I decided on a bunch of colorful balloons (every color of the rainbow!), some rainbow streamers, and a rainbow table cloth. I also got some colorful party hats and a fun cake hat for Logan (which he did NOT want to wear, btw). We put several tables together in the center of the room to make the coloring station, and the table cloth wasn’t long enough so I put a red one on one end and a blue one on the other, and put the rainbow table cloth on top. All were disposable!

IMG_6489I provided an assortment of coloring tools: crayons, markers, colored pencils, plain white paper, and some of those velvet coloring posters. The posters were a hit with both the girls and boys! For fun I added some jars of Play Dough, and in the center of the table, a tub of wet wipes to clean up messy little hands!

I wanted to make a bunting or banner that said “Happy Birthday Logan” so I used the same theme as the address labels to make individual triangles (1 per letter) and printed them out.

Happy Birthday Bunting

I used simple red curling ribbon to string all of the letters together. We didn’t have a great place to hang it up, but we ended up settling on an open window that was inside the restaurant.

The treat bags are always fun to put together for a party. I ended up getting almost everything online, except the bags which I scored at Target for really cheap (I think the pack of 10 bags was less than $4).

In the bags: Crayon bubbles, a giant inflatable crayon, a tub of play dough, a rainbow lollipop, and a red crayon in the shape of the first letter of the child’s name. Everything but the letter crayons was purchased from Amazon!

Treat Bags

Aren’t the letter crayons great?! I have to give a shout out to Posh Paper Creations on Etsy for whipping these out (10 of them) super fast and shipping them to me in time for the party. They are adorable and come individually wrapped, ready to drop in the bag!

Crayons

Personalized letter shaped crayons for the party guests

I wanted to make some matching tags for the outside of the bags with the guests names on them, so I used the same theme as the address labels and bunting.

Last but certainly not least was the cake. Now, I like to bake – I REALLY like to bake – but I will admit when my skills will fail me, and that is decorating a cake that I want to look like a box of crayons. I found a great cake idea on Pinterest and took it to my local Albertsons (they have a fabulous team in the bakery!), and they were able to make it exactly how I wanted it. Very affordable as well, I might add.

The party went very well – it was nice and short (just 2 hours), everyone got to eat great food since we were at a local burger eatery, the kids all had something fun to keep them occupied, and Logan had a really fun day. Since I designed and printed a lot of the materials myself, the investment (other than time) wasn’t as hefty as it could have been. In total, it was less than we would have spent going to a bounce warehouse or other indoor party venue, where the kids run around like maniacs, the adults are pulling their hair trying to keep them safe, and everyone eats less than appetizing pizza for lunch.

Here’s my happy guy enjoying his very special day!
